A residency for dancers and choreographers from Turkmenistan is closing in Almaty.
Tomorrow, the intercultural dance residency for dancers and choreographers from Turkmenistan, which took place at the Jolda Dance Theatre in Almaty from September 22, comes to an end.
The goal of the residency is to create a space for the exchange of experiences, the maintenance of mutually beneficial professional connections, and collaborative creativity.
The residency is part of the multi-component "Dance Turkmenistan!" project, aimed at developing contemporary dance and implemented by the French Institute in Turkmenistan in partnership with the Ministry of Culture of Turkmenistan, the Delegation of the European Union, the Embassies of France and Italy in Turkmenistan, and the Goethe-Institut in Kazakhstan.
For two weeks, the residency participants worked with a curator, attended master classes by local dance specialists, and met with representatives of the theater and dance communities.
Under the curator's guidance, the participants refined their ideas and created sketches for performances, which will be presented at the final open show on October 3.
The residency's producers are Zhanna Tulendy, founder of Jolda Dance Theater, and producer Nafisat Ermagambetova.
The curatorial and coaching team includes experienced dancers, choreographers, and directors: Artur Galimullin, Gulsaya Taurkhanova, Maria Gubanova, and Tomiris Mettibaeva, according to a press release from the French Institute in Turkmenistan.
The project is funded by EUNIC as part of the European Spaces of Culture program, which experiments and implements innovative models of cultural cooperation between European actors and local partners in non-EU countries.
