Turkmen delegation participated in a seminar-conference held in Almaty
A seminar-conference entitled “Strengthening the Potential for the Protection of the Vitality of Heritage in Central Asia” was held in Almaty, Kazakhstan. The Turkmen delegation, consisting of representatives of the Ministry of Culture of Turkmenistan and the National Commission of Turkmenistan for UNESCO, took part in it. As noted in the report, the Turkmen delegation actively participated in discussions and practical exercises aimed at improving the mechanisms for the protection of intangible cultural heritage.
The seminar-conference was organized by the UNESCO Regional Office in Almaty with the participation of delegations from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.
During the conference, the participants familiarized themselves with the updated questionnaires for inclusion in the Urgent Safeguarding List and discussed successful experiences of other countries.
As part of the conference, a trip was made to the Kazakh Oner handicraft center in Almaty. Here, the delegation led by the center got acquainted with the process of manufacturing household items and jewelry in workshops producing national felt, ceramics and metal products.
The seminar was an important step in strengthening cooperation between Central Asian countries in preserving intangible cultural heritage and implementing international cultural heritage protection standards, as well as exchanging experiences.
