People's Artist of Turkmenistan Nurygandym Khodjamuhammedov celebrates his 70th birthday

People's Artist of Turkmenistan Nurygandym Khodjamuhammedov, author of numerous works in the genres of symphonic, chamber instrumental, chamber vocal, vocal symphonic, and choral music, as well as film scores, is celebrating his 70th birthday.

He is one of the few contemporary Turkmen composers working in the highly complex genre of opera, according to the newspaper "Neitralny Turkmenistan."

He has composed three major operas—two of which, "Hüýrlükga-Hemra" and "Nejep oglan," are in the destan opera genre, while the opera "Ruhubelentler" is dedicated to contemporary youth themes.

N. Khodjamuhammedov actively participated in the restoration and updating of the musical material for the opera "Saýathan" by the classic Turkmen composer A. Agadzhikov. This painstaking work contributed greatly to the return of the production to the stage of the Magtymguly National Music and Drama Theater.

N. Khodjamuhammedov made a significant contribution to the genre of national military-patriotic music. He wrote two marches for brass band, "Türkmen atlylaryň marşy" and "Hormat garawulynyň marşy," several counter and ceremonial marches, parade formations for military bands, and more than 50 marching songs.

From 2003 to the present, he has directed the Owaz Variety Orchestra of the Palace of Mukams. The orchestra's repertoire includes popular works from Turkmen and international pop music, as well as the composer's own works.

N. Khodjamuhammedov dedicated many years to teaching, passing on his unique experience to young people.

The composer is currently considering the idea of creating instrumental pieces based on folk song and musical samples rarely heard today.

"I want to combine the archaic and the modern, to process and develop ancient melodies using the instruments of a symphony orchestra, combining them with computer technology," the musician noted.

N. Khodjamuhammedov sincerely believes that it is important for a person to feel their purpose, to understand why they were put on Earth. And, having realized this, to make their own unique contribution to the world.

"For me, that means creating music," he noted.
